There are always prim shavings flying down at the shipyard. While Defiant still needs to go through the approval process, the next ship in her line is ready to do through final fitting out. This is Intrepid, a brig class ship with 10 guns in their usual places.

It has been suggested that the itty bitty kitty committee would like some ships of their own. So here is a smol gunboat built out of half a rum barrel. This is designed to be slower and more maneuverable than a regular gunboat, with a smaller bore gun with half the range of a standard ship. Not recommended for a regular SPD battle, but should be lots of fun against other dinky ships.
While I have come to appreciate ships with lots of firepower thanks to my time sailing with Randy, my heart is still in using smaller ships. In continuing the trend with naming the Northern European and American ships after space ships, I present to you a "true" schooner. The BRS Defiant. It will be a while before she gets launched, tested, and approved. I am thinking Defiant will be out sometime in the beginning of 2022 if we all survive COVID.
Before you think that all we can do here at Black Rose is build Eastern and Med style ships. I bring you something new in the sloop category. The BRS Narcissus is a unique sloop, Not only is of Northern European/ American stock, but it has a different gun placement from every other sloop out there. Two Bow chasers, one gun on each side, and two stern chasers. She even has a working square sail.
I would not expecting to see this one for sale too soon, but you might see it sailing about before too long. I give you the BRS 雷子 Léi zi. Translated from Chinese into "Thunder Child", I took the name from both the Star Trek ship and the fictional "Ironclad Torpedo Ram" from the War of the Worlds" that inspired this ship (in a very round about kind of way) Sister Ship to the just released (12 June 2021) Kōgan, she packs the same punch in a different configuration. Two Bow Chasers, three per side, and two stern chasers. She is lower and longer than Kōgan, and uses an off-centre board (invented by the Chinese in the 8th century) instead of twin leeboards.
If you wish to see her, click on the anchor on the dock at: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Curacao%201700/122/94/22 While our Mediterranean ship line is coming along fine with Insolante having recently hit the water and beginning testing. Our Asian line is also picking up steam with the larger ships coming out, so I am proud to tease you with the first of our Western European/American ships. I give you Narcissus, a sloop with stern chasers! Yes, this does mean that in order to have two bow chasers and two stern chasers, you do lose some broadside guns.
Next on the list of approvals is Jingti the asian counterpart to Diligentè. As I do enjoy testing our new ships before sending them off to be folded, stapled, mutilated, and spindled in the course of being approved, I had to show what happens when things do not always go according to plan when battle testing. At least the water was shallow, made for very little swimming.
New Ship in the Rezzer at the moment. An Asian Junk "Brig" sized ship. Two bow chasers and four broadside cannon on each side. No tricky stern cannons on this one. Still have a few ships to get through before this one undergoes sea trials, but she is complete and coming soon! If you wish to check out the BRS Kyoi come to Curacao 1700 and scroll through all the ships in the anchor.
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Curacao%201700/121/95/22 Jingti 警惕, it's name is Japanese for Vigilant is a ship very similar to my own Dilgiente' a ship I refer to as a "cutter" in that it looks like a sloop, but has the same firepower as a schooner. Unlike an actual schooner, my cutters have two forward facing bow chasers, two guns on each side for broadsides, and two rearward facing chasers. This makes for a ship that can attack or defend from any direction. In the hands of a skilled and crafty captain, a deadly combination. Technically a "lorcha" as she is a Western style hull underneath an Asian Rig and superstructure, Her roots are plain to see with her squared off decks, and fully battened "junk" style lug sails.
Do not expect to see her too soon. I still have the refit to Diligente' to get out first and hopefully have Insolente', the next big ship in Mediterranean fleet, to get out first. Things are moving right along at the shipyards! |
